It's been one year since we removed the level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick by building a new road underpass with a rail bridge.
Removing this dangerous and congested level crossing has made journeys safer for the community, including the 22,000 vehicles passing under the rail line every day.
In addition to removing the level crossing, we also upgraded the Berwick Station precinct. We built a new bus interchange with more sheltered seating, a drop off area, bicycle storage and new pedestrian connections.
The old bus interchange was transformed into a new car park. It includes 140 new car spaces, improved CCTV and lighting, and upgraded pedestrian connections to Berwick Station. There are now more than 1,400 car spaces at Berwick Station for commuters to use.
We planted over 37,000 trees, shrubs and grasses, including in the new pocket park on Clyde Road.
The level crossing was the 12th to be removed along the Pakenham Line. We’re removing 22 level crossings on the line, with 9 more to go to make it boom gate-free by 2025.
