Pakenham works continue at pace

Since new stations opened at Pakenham and East Pakenham last month, and three level crossings were removed from Main Street, McGregor Road and Racecourse Road, works have continued underneath the elevated rail line.

Main Street reopened to traffic recently, with a new roundabout in place. The construction team removed old railway infrastructure, including train tracks, from the road. The team will return to complete finishing works on Main Street in the coming weeks.

Crews will now turn their attention to McGregor Road, to remove the old rail tracks, build a new signalised pedestrian crossing and resurface and line mark the road. To complete these works, McGregor Road is closed at the rail bridge until Friday 16 August.

The Pakenham team would like to thank everyone for their patience during these works.

In the meantime, the team continues to create 6 MCGs worth of new community open space for locals to enjoy for generations to come. Thousands of new trees, shrubs and grasses will be planted in the new Pakenham Station and open space area.

The new open space will also feature a barbecue area, a half basketball court, playgrounds, bicycle hoops, a bicycle repair station, parklands, seating and garden beds.  A Changing Places facility will also be built, for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

The open space will be ready for everyone to enjoy in Spring 2024.
