It has been a busy few months for the Reservoir Level Crossing Removal Project.
The old Reservoir Station is now gone and temporary station facilities are in place so that works can continue safely while the trains are running.
The road and rail disruptions in April saw the installation of modified overhead power structures along the rail line that will allow the rail bridge to be built while trains continue running below.
The 6-day blitz in April saw:
- a crew of 200 work around the clock to demolish the outdated station, begin building the foundations of the new rail bridge, and relocate utilities and overhead wires
- 82 machines on site
- 7.6km of new signalling cables installed
- 40 truckloads of dirt removed from foundation holes up to 28m deep
- 32 truckloads of concrete poured.
The project team would like to thank everyone who came along to the recent viewing events. There will be more of these events, so keep an eye on the website and Facebook page.
In addition, project team members are at Reservoir Library every Tuesday with Darebin City Council to answer any questions about the project.
To celebrate Easter the project has teamed up with Darebin City Council and the Reservoir Traders Association to create an Easter egg hunt around the Reservoir shopping precinct. It is running from Tuesday 16 April to Thursday 18 April, so come and support local businesses and you might score a prize too.
With the foundation works well underway, there are changes to the way you move about the precinct.
2 southbound lanes are currently closed, and from Sunday 28 April all lanes across the rail line will close with detours in place.
Thank you to everyone for your patience while these essential works take place.
