Summer works start with removal of 2 more boom gates

Another 2 boom gates have been removed as a major construction blitz began yesterday at Blackburn Road, Blackburn and Heatherdale Road, Mitcham.

These level crossings will be gone at the end of a 6week summer works period which will see the Belgrave/Lilydale Line lowered under Blackburn Road and Heatherdale Road, taking the total to 10 dangerous and congested level crossings removed.

Around 800 staff will be working around the clock over the summer to lower and rebuild the rail line, construct 3 new pedestrian bridges across the rail line and carry out further works on the new Heatherdale Station.

To complete these works, buses are replacing trains between Box Hill/Blackburn and Ringwood stations on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines until Sunday 5 February 2017. Normal train services will resume on Monday 6 February 2017.

Blackburn and Heatherdale roads are currently closed at the level crossings while we carry out this work.

Both projects are on track for completion in mid 2017, when landscaping, station car parks, and a new walking and cycling path is finished.
