Construction is ramping up to remove 3 more level crossings and build 2 modern train stations at Cheltenham and Mentone on the Frankston Line.
Major construction commenced in late 2019 on the rail trench, which will lower the Frankston Line under Park Road and Charman Road in Cheltenham as well as Balcombe Road in Mentone.
Preparations for the construction of 2 new stations means Mention Station will close in late March 2020 and Cheltenham Station will close from mid April 2020.
Trains will run express through the stations until a 2-month closure of a section of the Frankston Line, which will run from mid May to mid July 2020.
During the construction period, buses will replace trains from Moorabbin to Mordialloc. There will also be temporary road closures of level crossings and road detours in place.
Mentone and Cheltenham stations will be open by late 2020, with finishing works continuing into mid 2021.

Both stations will feature new community open spaces and more than three kilometres of walking and cycling paths connecting the 2 station precincts.
Designs for Mentone Station gardens revealed
New designs have been unveiled for the Mentone Station gardens, which feature a large new recreational area, based on community feedback.
The station will incorporate 540 square metres of valuable new community space for Mentone, as well as more green space, wider paths, with paths to improve accessibility.
Works at Cheltenham and Mentone are part of a $3 billion investment on the Frankston Line, which includes the removal of 18 level crossings, with 5 already removed, and building 12 new stations.
