A’Beckett Street has reopened to the traffic after a long term closure to build State Library Station.
The street is now one way only westbound between Swanston and Stewart streets, with access available from Swanston Street. Head to our traffic and transport changes page to learn more about new traffic conditions in the area.
Pedestrian access has been prioritised with a wider footpath, public seating and bike parking creating a new public space.
A'Beckett Street is the last street around State Library Station to be reopened after Franklin Street reopened in August. Both were formerly sites of acoustic sheds designed to enclose construction activity (noise, light and dust) while we built State Library Station.
Both streets have been upgraded to be more pedestrian friendly, with Franklin Street also now the home to an entrance to State Library Station.
Major construction of State Library Station is now complete. The Metro Tunnel opens in early December with hundreds of weekly passenger services as part of the Summer Start.
