Introducing Victoria’s first platform screen doors

Back to Newsfeed

The Metro Tunnel introduces platform screen doors to Victoria’s rail network.

These doors are used around the world to keep passengers safe, control temperature, minimise noise and dust, and streamline boarding. 60 platform screen doors feature in each of the 5 Metro Tunnel stations.

The Metro Tunnel’s cutting-edge high-capacity signalling technology allow trains to automatically line up with the platform screen doors, which also open and close automatically.

These functions make it faster to board the train as you know where exactly the train doors will be. These doors stop items falling onto the train tracks below.

Separating the platforms from the tunnel, also controls the station climate and allows for the tunnel to be better ventilated.

Markings on the floor in front of the doors, make it easier for you to know where to wait for the train and keep out of the way of exiting passengers.

There’s no need to press buttons or pull handles with platform screen doors, as everything is automated.

The Metro Tunnel opens Sunday 30 November. Head to the Transport Victoria website to plan your journey.
