Smoke system testing at Arden Station

Back to Newsfeed

Arden Station’s fire safety systems were recently put to the test with the help of Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO.

The team used a fog machine to generate ‘hot smoke’ with controlled flames, to safely simulate how smoke behaves in the station.

One test took place within the concourse area, and the other on the platform. Both tests measured smoke movement, speed, extraction time and impact on emergency access points.

These tests aim to ensure Arden Station’s ventilation systems are working as expected to help keep people safe in the rare event of a fire.

Similar tests will be carried out across all Metro Tunnel stations in coming months, ensuring the safety and preparedness of the stations when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025.
