Work to enable VLocity trains to travel to and from Shepparton for the first time will soon be underway, with a preferred contractor selected to deliver Stage 2 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade.

Coleman Rail in partnership with KBR has been selected as the preferred contractor to deliver the infrastructure required for VLocity trains to travel to and from Shepparton for the first time, improving service reliability and providing passengers with more comfortable journeys.

The VLocity is the newest train in the V/Line fleet and has improved features including mobile signal boosters for phone coverage and better accessibility for passengers with prams or mobility aids.

The project will extend platforms at Mooroopna, Murchison East and Nagambie stations to accommodate the longer VLocity trains and build a new stabling facility in an industrial area north of Shepparton Station including facilities for staff.

Stabling facilities are a critical part of our rail network, allowing trains to begin service on time each day. Without adequate stabling, trains need to travel long distances without passengers which reduces the number of services that can run on the line.

The project will also upgrade 59 level crossings between Donnybrook and Shepparton to boost safety for road users and train passengers. An extension to the crossing loop near Murchison East will enable trains to pass each other, boosting reliability on the line.

The contractor will soon begin early works including site investigations, local industry engagement and design to ensure construction can commence as soon as possible.

Stage 2 of the Shepparton Line Upgrade will begin construction later this year and is targeted for completion in late 2022.
