Local artist Marilyn Fenton will develop permanent public artworks for Morwell and Traralgon stations as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade.
Marilyn will create 2 artworks that tell stories using traditional Gunaikurnai line patterns. They show men and women travelling and meeting, and illustrations of the 5 Gunaikurnai clans.
Marilyn creates her artwork from her home in Traralgon where she has lived for more than 2 decades.
The artworks will be sandblasted into the forecourt concrete at Morwell and Traralgon stations with the use of custom designed stencils. The sandblasting technique removes the top layer of concrete exposing the aggregate layer that demonstrates the design.
Creative artwork has been integrated into the designs for upgrades to Morwell and Traralgon stations in partnership with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation.
The artworks are being delivered as part of the Regional Rail Revival Creative strategy which celebrates the vibrancy and diversity of Victoria’s regional creative industries. This is achieved by collaborating with local artists, cultural organisations and communities and celebrating the creative culture of Victoria’s First Nations Peoples.
