More trains, more often for Gippsland in the works

Back to Newsfeed

Work to prepare the Gippsland Line for a new signalling system will progress between Drouin and Moe while coaches replace trains until Sunday 10 September.

Underground boring, trenching and pipe installation will take place along the 38km section of track to enable the signalling upgrades.

The new signalling system, in conjunction with track works and station upgrades delivered as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade, will enable additional services and future-proof the line.

Crews will also lay foundations for new signal equipment rooms and begin an extension of the existing platform at Longwarry Station so trains can safely stop further away from the level crossing.

At Trafalgar Station, the pedestrian crossing at the Moe end of the platforms will be temporarily closed while work takes place. Pedestrians will use Ashby Street to cross the line.

Coaches replace trains between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale from Monday 21 September to Sunday 10 September, with details available from V/Line.

This work has been coordinated with level crossing removal works, which include adding two dedicated tracks near East Pakenham to allow V/Line trains to bypass metropolitan trains, making travel more reliable.
