Victoria’s Big Build is kicking into gear for a massive 2024 in Greenvale, with works due to start on upgrades to the intersection at Mickleham Road and Greenvale Gardens Boulevard.
The improvements to this intersection are the first step in delivering safer and more reliable travel for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Part of the Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1, the intersection improvements will include new traffic lanterns, street lighting, road pavement, kerbs, drainage and a shared path for walking and cycling.
For the safety of crews completing the intersection upgrade, Greenvale Gardens Boulevard will close at Mickleham Road from Monday 15 January until mid-March.
A signed detour will divert drivers via Lemonwood Drive and Blossom Drive during the closure.
Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access Greenvale Gardens Boulevard from Mickleham Road, with signage and traffic controllers in place to guide them around the work area.
On the intersection’s eastern side, right turns in and out of Dellamore Boulevard will be temporarily restricted during the closure to maintain safety maintain traffic flow.
People are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the closure.
More information and updates about the temporary traffic changes is available on the Disruptions map.
Information about temporary changes to the 543 bus route (Greenvale Gardens – Roxburgh Park via Greenvale Village shopping centre) is available at ptv.vic.gov.au/disruptions.
The Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1 is building extra lanes in each direction between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard to improve safety and ease congestion for the 25,000 drivers who use the road daily.
Stage 1 will replace the roundabout at Somerton and Mickleham roads with a new traffic light intersection, including priority bus lanes, to better manage traffic flow.
The project will also upgrade other intersections and build new sections of shared walking and cycling path to improve connectivity along Mickleham Road.
Stage 1 is set for completion in mid-2025.
Planning and development work is underway to inform the potential Mickleham Road Upgrade - Stage 2, between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road.
