With International Women in Engineering Day celebrating 10 years, we're taking the opportunity to recognise the incredible contribution engineers who identify as women are making to the profession and encourage more young women and girls to pursue a career in engineering.
This year’s theme is ‘Make safety seen.’
Our women engineers are a constant presence throughout the journey of many road projects – these highly-qualified and experienced engineers play a vital role in developing and overseeing the State’s biggest and best projects.
To mark this year’s theme, Craigieburn Road Upgrade Project Manager Vicky Li Vines stepped onto the recently upgraded Craigieburn Road-Mickleham Road intersections in her high vis – where she's providing expert advice on the intersection’s design and engineering.
Vicky says she was drawn into a career in engineering due to her interest in shaping communities for the better, by building infrastructure that matters to everyday people. To her, there is nothing better than building a road that will improve connectivity within an evolving suburb – a task she describes as “challenging and fulfilling”.
A Mandarin speaker, she’s working as part of the highly skilled team that recently delivered a new and improved Craigieburn Road and Mickleham Road intersection, which is easing congestion and improving traffic flow through Yuroke and western Craigieburn.
The new intersection is 1 of 8 to be upgraded on Craigieburn Road between Mickleham Road and Hume Highway – with traffic lights to be added to the intersections of Balyang Way, Dorchester Street and Cimberwood Drive and upgraded intersections at Vantage Boulevard, Aitken Boulevard, Lygon Drive, Bridgewater Road, and Hanson Road.
The Craigieburn Road Upgrade project is on track and scheduled for completion by 2025.
