The local community and bus passengers in Melbourne’s east can help shape the next piece of Melbourne’s first dedicated busway, with designs released today for an upgraded Doncaster Park and Ride.
The new-look park and ride will be connected to 11 kilometres of new Eastern Busway lanes being delivered with a major overhaul of the Eastern Freeway.
Buses will travel in dedicated bus lanes at up to 100km/hr, slashing travel times to Melbourne’s CBD by up to 30% for more than 6 million trips a year.
As part of this massive improvement to public transport in Melbourne’s east, Doncaster Park and Ride will be upgraded with 3 new bus platforms, a multi-level car park for 435 cars and a new passenger services building with waiting area, ticket office and public toilets.
It will also be easier to walk or ride a bike to catch a bus with improved walking and cycling connections to Koonung Creek Trail and Doncaster Road.
A new 530m2 landscaped forecourt will connect passengers to the bus platform area, more than 150 indigenous and native trees and 20,000 plants will be planted, and over 1,000m2 of green wall space will be created for climbing plants.
The upgrades at Doncaster Park and Ride, together with a new Bulleen Park and Ride, will double the number of car parking spaces for express bus services along the Eastern Freeway.
The Urban Design and Landscape Plan (UDLP) for the upgraded Doncaster Park and Ride is on exhibition for community feedback until 5pm Tuesday 24 September 2024.
