The Eastern Freeway is set for disruptions from late July as crews build new bridges over the freeway. The Eastern Freeway will need to close for the first time since it was last upgraded in the 1990s, to build 2 new walking and cycling bridges over the Eastern Freeway at Heyington Avenue, Mont Albert North and Estelle Street, Bulleen.
The Eastern Freeway will be closed overnight at times from late July to September between Bulleen and Tram roads. These closures may affect one or both directions. Work to build new bridges over the freeway will continue through to the end of 2025. Expect intermittent full freeway closures, along with overnight lane and ramp closures. Plan ahead to avoid delays.
Crews will also use the closures as an opportunity to complete works on upgrading the Doncaster Road interchange, which reduces the number of future disruptions. These works include building foundations for the city-side of the Doncaster Road bridge, drainage and asphalting works, and installing smart onroad technology.
