Ison Road Overpass road to fun for local kids

Local children had fun learning about the Ison Road Overpass project when team members were out and about in the community recently.

The team visited Walcom Ngarrwa Secondary School and Folkstone Early Learning Centre with lessons and activities related to construction of roads and bridges and managing water on construction sites.

The students undertook hands-on activities involving water testing and flow management on construction sites designed to complement the students’ environmental sciences studies as part of the Year 7 curriculum.

Kinder kids from the early learning centre dressed up in high-vis vests and hard hats as they learnt about engineering, construction, and the importance of road safety using building blocks to create their own bridges and road networks.

The Folkstone session included a reading of the children’s book Roadworks, copies of which were donated to the centre.

The lifelong learnings from the school and early learning centre visits support our commitment to leaving lasting legacies beyond transport infrastructure in the communities where we work.

Once complete, the 4 lane Ison Road Overpass will extend over the Melbourne-Geelong railway line toward the Princes Freeway.

Future-proofed for 6 lanes, it will help give residents access to surrounding areas and minimise traffic in central Werribee, reducing congestion and improving journey reliability.

The project’s opportunities for active transport will include shared walking and cycling paths over the bridge and a cycling path underneath the bridge.

Due for completion by the end of 2025, the Ison Road Overpass is set to cater for nearly 29,000 vehicles a day by 2036.
