Blue sky, cool cars and plenty of smiling faces!
More than 3,000 people came together to celebrate a major milestone for the Ison Road project, with the local community getting a first look at the new overpass and extension before it opened on 4 September.
The celebration was a true community affair, with the Local Member for Werribee, John Lister, Federal Member for Lalor, Joanne Ryan and the Mayor of Wyndham City Council, Cr Mia Shaw joining the festivities and sharing a few words with the crowd.
There was plenty happening throughout the day, including kids activities, live entertainment, a photo booth, games and more! The local CFA also joined the fun, running a sausage sizzle to raise funds for new firefighting equipment.
The event also provided an opportunity to showcase the local community, with the team partnering with Harpley Town Centre to support local traders and promote businesses in the area.
Attendees had an opportunity to walk along the new road before it opened to traffic, taking in the scale of the project alongside a classic car display from the Werribee and District Collectable Vehicle Club.
Most importantly, the day was an opportunity for the project team to say thank you to the community for its patience and support throughout construction.
The Ison Road overpass was jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments with the Extension delivered by Big Builds Road on behalf of Wyndham City Council.
The recently opened Ison Road overpass and extension is providing the growing Wyndham community with a vital new link to the Princes Freeway, improving connectivity, enhancing safety and reducing congestion.
