The northbound lane for traffic heading from Templestowe to Eltham at the Fitzsimons Lane-Main Road intersection has reopened. The lane opening from Friday 21 January 2022 comes 5 days ahead of schedule.

A Bolton Street detour is still in place for those travelling between Lower Plenty and Eltham until Sunday 13 February 2022.

There’ll be temporary traffic signals in place to assist with traffic movements through the intersection.

Drivers should allow extra travel time through the intersection with travel delays of up to 15 minutes expected during this time.

The Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade team have removed the Main Road roundabout and are ramping up efforts to finish the intersection and allow traffic lights to become operational next month by Sunday 13 February.

After major construction takes place, there’ll be additional works continuing into April, during normal work hours, as the team build medians, install the retaining wall and do some finishing works to complete this area.

The Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade will improve safety and efficiency for motorists and pedestrians in Melbourne’s north, by adding traffic lights to intersections, and walking and cycling connections to the local area.

The upgrade will be crucial for the 60,000 people who drive through the area daily.
