Forty Year 9 students from Swan Hill College in regional Victoria got a taste of the wide array of jobs in the civil construction industry recently, as part of our Careers in Civil Construction school engagement program.
The program exposes secondary school students to the many different types of careers on offer in the industry – from operating heavy machinery to engineering, communications, safety, and environment management.
With $70 billion in road and rail projects as part of Big Build alone, the civil construction industry is booming. Attracting people to the industry will be critical in ensuring there’s a strong pipeline of skilled people to help deliver the state’s transport infrastructure projects.
Careers in Civil Construction is a joint initiative between Major Road Projects Victoria, Civil Contractors Federation Victoria and Career Education Association Victoria. The program will initially be offered as an online learning experience due to COVID-19 restrictions but will expand to a face-to-face industry immersion event as restrictions lift.
