Traffic light mega-fan and student at Rowellyn Park Primary School Tom Nesbitt flipped the switch on the new traffic lights at the recently upgraded McCormicks and Hall roads intersection. Tom loves his traffic lights and was very excited to see these new ones pop up as part of the Hall Road Upgrade just around the corner from home.
Along with Rowellyn Park Primary School principal Mark Henderson and staff from our construction partner BMD and the Hall Road project team, Tom was excited to test the lights and get the intersection ready to go ahead for the reopening on 21 August.
Tom lives on Hall Road and his walk to school involves navigating the Hall and McCormicks roads intersection. Prior to the installation of the new traffic lights, Tom's journey was often daunting due to high traffic volumes.
"I was always quite anxious, people might not be checking who’s crossing the road," Tom said. "Once, I stayed there for 30 minutes, scared to cross the road.”
Now the 4 week construction blitz has been completed, the old, congested roundabout at Hall and McCormicks Road is now a new intersection with traffic lights, Carrum Downs drivers will see a dramatic boost in travel times when travelling through the area. The intersection also greatly improves travel for pedestrians like Tom and other Rowellyn Park Primary students, who will have easier, safer journeys from home, school and throughout the region.
This is the second of 4 intersection upgrades completed as part of the Hall Road Upgrade, following the opening of the new Hall, Evans and Cranbourne-Frankston roads intersection in June. These upgrades further improve Hall Road as a key link between Carrum Downs, Cranbourne and Cranbourne West.
