Crews are busy working on our road networks in the south east to ensure drivers are a step closer to safer, smoother and more reliable journeys.
With projects at various stages of construction, huge improvements are on the way for some of the most congested roads in the area.
Projects well underway
Progress on the Monash Freeway Upgrade has motored along this year, with close to 150 beams to widen 8 bridges now installed across the project.
The Mordialloc Freeway has also progressed swiftly. Crews will complete construction and wrap up the final touches – lighting, landscaping and line marking – and the freeway will open to drivers by the end of spring.
Major construction is taking place on the Lathams Road Upgrade, with ramp widening works happening on the Eastlink on and off ramps. Crews are also undertaking preparation works for the new bridge over Peninsula Link and conducting ongoing service relocations along Rutherford and Lathams roads, between Frankston Gardens Drive and Frankston Dandenong Road.
Service relocation work, including the water main and power poles, is also taking place along Hallam North Road between James Cook Drive and Heatherton Road as part of the Hallam North and Heatherton Road Upgrade. Asphalting works will continue along Hallam North Road and Heatherton Road to prepare for the construction of new lanes.
Work begins
From November, work will start on both the South Road Upgrade and the Narre Warren North Road Upgrade.
For the South Road Upgrade, a new citybound right turn lane will be built to improve access to Nepean Highway along with a new right turning lane at the East Boundary Road intersection to relieve bottlenecks and reduce congestion.
Duplication works will increase Narre Warren North Road from 2 lanes to 4 between Fox and Belgrave-Hallam roads and will be supported by upgrades to the Heatherton Road, Ernst Wanke Road and Memorial Drive intersections.
Early work has just started on the Golf Links Road Upgrade. The first stage of work includes a 12-week road closure between Peninsula Link to the McClelland Drive roundabout until late December.
Pound West Road Upgrade investigation work has begun to locate underground utility services and better understand road and ground conditions. These investigations will continue in the coming months and inform the final design. Major road and bridge strengthening works are due to start at Frankston- Dandenong Road bridge in early 2022.
Planning for potential projects
We’re undertaking planning for the potential upgrade of Wellington Road between Napoleon Road in Rowville and Berwick Road in Narre Warren East.
Planning is also progressing for a potential upgrade of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, between Jetty Road and Boneo Road.
