Roundabout removed on Thompsons Road

Back to Newsfeed

The Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Thompsons Road intersection has reopened on schedule following a construction blitz to remove the old roundabout.

Crews worked 24/7 throughout the closure to remove the existing roundabout, install new traffic light cables and relocate water services, and asphalting all existing legs of the intersection.

The intersection has now reopened with a smaller, temporary roundabout to help to keep traffic flowing while works behind barriers continue while restoring access through the intersection.

Road users will see significantly improved travel times now the intersection has reopened, with all traffic movements available.

The next phase of construction will include widening all 4 sections of road leading into the intersection, followed by drainage works, traffic islands, installation of traffic lights and lighting infrastructure, upgraded bus stops, shared-use paths and landscaping.

Keeping traffic moving is a major priority throughout construction and works will be managed to minimise disruption to both road users and the local community.

The new intersection with traffic lights is on track to be completed in mid-2027.
