Big Build double milestone for the Mickleham Road Upgrade

New northbound lanes have opened following the completion of improvements to a key intersection in a Big Build double milestone for the Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1.

The twin achievements marked a huge step toward the project’s goal of safer, more-reliable travel on Mickleham Road for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

Moving traffic onto the new northbound lanes means crews can now begin safely building the lanes on the southbound side of the road.

The upgrade of Greenvale Gardens Boulevard at Mickleham Road involved the installation of new traffic lights, street lighting, road pavement, kerbs, drainage and a new shared path for walking and cycling.

With the northbound lanes open and Greenvale Gardens Boulevard reopened, the Mickleham Road Upgrade has now laid a total 10,943 tonnes of asphalt – equivalent in weight to nearly 5500 dual-cab utes.

Following the new northbound lanes opening, Carramar Way has also reopened at Mickleham Road.

The Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1 is adding extra lanes in each direction between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard to improve safety and ease congestion for the 25,000 drivers using the road daily.

Stage 1 will replace the roundabout at Somerton and Mickleham roads with a new traffic light intersection, including priority bus lanes, to better manage traffic flow.

The project will also build a new traffic light intersection at Aitken College, upgrade key intersections and build new sections of shared walking and cycling paths to improve connectivity on Mickleham Road.

Planning and development work is underway to inform the potential Mickleham Road Upgrade - Stage 2, between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road.

The Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1 is set to be complete in mid-2025.
