Major road upgrades transforming Wallan's road network are powering ahead, with locals set to benefit sooner from two key projects that will improve safety, ease congestion and deliver more reliable journeys across the growing community.
The Watson Street Interchange Upgrade is now more than halfway complete and the Northern Highway Intersection Upgrade is on track to finish six months early.
Once complete, the new full diamond interchange at the Hume Freeway will provide drivers with new entry and exit ramps and more direct connections to Wallan and the Wallan East industrial precinct.
Nearby, the Northern Highway Intersection Upgrade is progressing strongly, with major works expected to finish by the end of 2026 - six months ahead of schedule.
Delivering additional lanes on Northern Highway in both directions at the intersection, the project will also provide a second right-turn lane from Watson Street towards Wallan and improved walking and bike riding connections.
Meanwhile, the added traffic capacity will prepare the intersection for changed vehicle movements when the Watson Street freeway ramps open in mid-2027.
Motorists are reminded that both north-facing freeway ramps remain closed until mid-November, with signed detours in place and drivers advised to allow up to 20 minutes of additional travel time.
Together, the two projects are delivering safer and more reliable journeys for Wallan families, businesses and freight operators while supporting the town's continued growth and strengthening its connection to the Hume Freeway.
The projects are supporting more than 1,100 jobs during construction.
