SRL's Community Projects Fund (CPF) is boosting participation in local sport right along the SRL East corridor from Cheltenham to Box Hill.
Improved facilities, new uniforms and community events are just some of the ways the grants program is supporting local sporting clubs and encouraging more women and young people to take part.
A wide range of sports have received funding - including basketball, bocce, bowls, cricket, cycling, Frisbee, football, netball, gymnastics, hockey, soccer, tennis and athletics.
Projects funded include a new pitch for Notting Hill Brandon Park Cricket Club and resurfaced tennis courts for Koonung Park Tennis Club – allowing more people to experience the physical and social benefits of taking part in community sport.
The CPF has been established to support a wide range of projects and initiatives to meet community needs and help make our great SRL neighbourhoods even better.
Almost 80 recipients are sharing in $3 million from the first funding round, including dozens of local sporting groups.
Grants between $10,000 and $80,000 were awarded to community organisations in the areas surrounding the new SRL East stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.
More funding rounds will be offered as work on SRL East continues. To find out more about the program, and other successful initiatives, visit the SRL Community Projects Fund page.
