Building big and safer than ever

Back to Newsfeed

A massive effort has gone into getting the 18,000 strong Big Build workforce vaccinated and project sites ready to return to work in compliance with new construction public health orders.

Strict processes are in place to check and record the vaccination status of workers entering construction sites.

Where possible, worksites have been fitted with open air, sheltered rest areas to ensure workers are as safe as possible during break times.

Ventilation plans are in place for enclosed rest areas and workspaces. New public health directions for construction sites mean the entire air volume of a crib room must be replaced or filtered 5 to 6 times an hour, or about every 10 – 12 minutes.

Additional measures making worksites even safer include new physical distancing markers, updated site safety information and newly appointed COVID-19 safety marshals to help workers do the right thing and stay safe and healthy.

Big Build projects will continue to implement existing safety controls including QR code check-ins, working in ‘bubble’ groups and regular compliance checks.

On the spot safety checks have been a huge success with our safety teams doing 11,000 checks across our sites during the pandemic so far. These inspections will ramp up in the coming weeks as we monitor and audit compliance across our projects.
