We’re continuing works on Victoria’s Big Build over autumn. Make sure you check out our disruptions and allow extra travel time. Thanks for your patience while we make changes today, for better transport tomorrow.
Melbourne’s west
This autumn, we’ll continue work on the West Gate Freeway widening, which is now 70% complete. As the bridge strengthening part of this work continues, Williamstown Road under the West Gate Freeway will close in both directions most nights throughout March and early April. These works are part of upgrades to the West Gate Freeway, and the construction of the brand-new West Gate Tunnel. The West Gate Tunnel project will reduce travel times by 20 minutes, getting you home safer and sooner.
Melbourne’s north
If you can’t go over, go under – and that’s exactly what we’re doing to the Glenroy Road level crossing. Buses will replace trains on the Craigieburn and Seymour lines from late April for 10 days as the rail line is safely dropped under the road, and there will be closures on Glenroy Road.
Inner Melbourne
We’ll all be enjoying a smoother return to the city, with maintenance upgrades to our tram work underway this autumn. Buses will replace trams on Route 72 for 2 weeks from 30 April to 15 May along Malvern Road, Prahran. Malvern Road will also close to accommodate these works.
Maintenance works will also take place along tram routes 11, 86 and 96.
Melbourne’s east
The leafy east will soon have 2 fewer dangerous and congested level crossings, with crossings going at Union Road, Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert. While these works are completed, buses will replace trams on sections of the Lilydale and Belgrave lines.
Works will continue on the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network, North East Link. The Yarra East Main Sewer is being relocated and other works, including for the Bulleen Park & Ride, will mean some lane closures and changed traffic conditions along Bulleen, Watsonia and Thompson’s roads.
Melbourne’s south east
The Hallam Road level crossing will soon be gone for good, with a new rail bridge built over the new Hallam Station. For these works to take place, buses will replace trains between Dandenong and Pakenham during March, which will also impact traffic, with Hallam Road closed to drivers.
The south east will be saying ‘good riddance’ to another 3 level crossings in Pakenham, with buses and coaches replacing services between Berwick and Pakenham.
You only have to take a glimpse at the Monash Freeway to see the massive amount of work already underway to increase lanes and provide safer on and off ramps. These works will continue over the coming months and will require lane and ramp closures. Check out upcoming M1 freeway disruptions.
Regional Victoria
The Warrnambool Line Upgrade will pave the way for a fifth weekday return service for passengers. Coaches will replace all Warrnambool Line trains between Geelong and Warrnambool from 1-21 May for work to continue on the upgrade.
Works will progress on the Shepparton Line Upgrade during V/Line’s annual works program activities in late April and early May.
As the Gippsland Line Upgrade progresses, coaches will replace trains between Southern Cross, Traralgon and Bairnsdale. The upgrade will provide extra services in peak periods with a track duplication, a crossing loop extension and second platforms at Bunyip, Longwarry, Morwell and Traralgon stations.
Passengers on the Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Swan Hill lines will also need to plan ahead, with coaches replacing some trains between 31 March and 3 April while bridge widening works take place at Dynon Road, West Melbourne.
