Back to Newsfeed

We’re continuing works on Victoria’s Big Build over spring. Make sure you check if you'll be affected by disruptions and allow extra travel time. Thanks for your patience.

Melbourne’s west

The level crossing at Robinsons Road in Deer Park will be removed in September, while the new Gap Road underpass in Sunbury will open to traffic in October.

As work progresses to widen the West Gate Freeway, there will be freeway ramp closures at Millers Road. Works to upgrade the Millers Road intersection will be close to completion this spring, making it easier to get onto the freeway.

Construction is also progressing on the elevated road above Footscray Road, connecting the West Gate Tunnel to the city and CityLink, with weekend closures to Footscray Road during spring.

Melbourne’s north

Buses will replace trains on the Mernda, Hurstbridge and Craigieburn lines as we complete line upgrades.

While we complete these upgrades, we’ll be bringing 2-new stations to the North – at Bell Street and Preston. Construction staff will also work around-the-clock for 14 days to undertake duplication works on the Hurstbridge line.

On our northern roads, we’ll be undertaking a massive amount of work in delivering the utility relocation works for the Craigieburn Road Upgrade. These closures will allow construction crew to complete 4 months’ worth of work in only 12 days.

Inner Melbourne

We’ll all be enjoying a smoother return to the city, with maintenance upgrades to our tram network underway this autumn. Buses will replace trams on Route 72 for 2 weeks from 30 April to 15 May along Malvern Road, Prahran. Malvern Road will also close to accommodate these works.

Maintenance works will also take place along tram routes 11, 86 and 96.

Coaches will replace trains on the Warrnambool Line as upgrades continue on the line, to deliver a fifth weekday return service to Melbourne.

On the Geelong Line, preparations will get underway to duplicate 8km of track between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds. Nearby, we’ll be constructing a brand-new road bridge at Barwon Heads which will remove the current level crossing at Marshall.
