Road and public transport works continue this winter

Back to Newsfeed

We’re continuing works on Victoria’s Big Build over winter. Make sure you check out upcoming disruptions and allow extra travel time. Thanks for your patience while we build Victoria’s transport future.

Melbourne’s west

There’ll be lane changes this winter on the West Gate Freeway with works continuing on the West Gate Tunnel Project. If travelling west, look out for changes to how to get to Millers Road from the West Gate Freeway. If travelling to the city, expect changes through the M80 Ring Road interchange.

While you’re on the road, keep an eye out for digital road signs and detour routes.

There will be road and rail disruptions as we remove Sunbury’s worst bottleneck. The Gap Road level crossing will be removed and a new rail bridge and road underpass will be built. Work on the Sunbury Line Upgrade will continue with buses replacing trains in June.

Melbourne’s north

Major works are wrapping up on the M80 Ring Road Upgrade between Sydney Road and Edgars roads with speeds returning to 100km/h from 18 May.

Works are well underway at the Preston level crossing and buses will replace trains from late August to early September.

Inner Melbourne

Buses will replace trams on Route 96 on Nicholson Street and Route 16 on Glenferrie Road as we complete electrical upgrades.

Melbourne’s east and north east

There will be speed reductions and occasional lane closures across Thompsons Road and Bulleen Road in Bulleen, and Greensborough Road in Watsonia while we continue works on North East Link.

Foote Street, Templestowe, will be closed for work on the Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade. The upgraded Fitzsimons Lane will provide more reliable travel times and will improve safety for those who walk and cycle in the area.

There will be train disruptions across the Belgrave and Lilydale lines as we remove the Union Road level crossing in Surrey Hills and the Mont Albert Road level crossing in Mont Albert.

Melbourne’s south east

On the Frankston Line, buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Mordialloc while we continue works to remove the Glenhuntly level crossing. The level crossing removal will improve wait times so the Glen Huntly community can access the local shops more quickly and safely.

There will be lanes closed on South Road at the Rowans Road/East Boundary Road intersection while we remove 5 intersections to improve traffic flow as part of the South Road Upgrade. We’ll also be continuing works on Golf Links Road, the Monash Freeway, Western Port Highway and Lathams Road.

Regional Victoria

Regional Victorians can look forward to extra road lanes, a new rail bridge and more level crossings gone for good.

There will be road works at Barwon Heads Road and Breakwater Road in Geelong as we complete work to raise the road by up to one metre to prevent future flooding. Coaches will replace trains on the Gippsland, Echuca and Swan Hill, Ballarat, Bendigo, Ararat and Maryborough, Geelong and Warrnambool lines as we provide major upgrades to Victoria’s regional rail network.
