A bridge with a name and new wetlands for locals

We’re excited to announce the name of the Maribyrnong River Bridge connecting the West Gate Tunnel to the elevated road above Footscray Road is nangnak barring, which means 'respect track’ in Wurundjeri language.

The waterways in Melbourne’s inner west have long been places for food, connection and community for Traditional Owners, shaping the rich stories of First Nations peoples of the area.

We are also excited to announce that right nearby, former industrial land has been transformed into a new wetlands area for the community to enjoy.

The new space features a scenic walkway, Indigenous artwork, native plantings, and plenty of seating.

Check it out next time you’re in the area.
