A new 1km long walking and cycling path along Kororoit Creek from Grieve Parade to Geelong Road is now open for use.
This path will provide new connections to the Federation Trail, giving people more choices about how they move around.
Native grasses, trees, ground covers and shrubs have also been planted to add vegetation and colour along the Kororoit Creek and walking and cycling path connecting to the Federation Trail.
At the same time, following West Gate Freeway widening works in the area, the Federation Trail between Millers Road and Fogarty Avenue is now open for use. While it was closed, this section of the Trail has been rebuilt with a stronger, smoother surface and widened in some sections.
The opening and upgrading of these walking and cycling paths is part of the West Gate Tunnel Project’s delivering more than 14 km of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths - making it easier and safer for people to get around.
Resurfacing the Federation Trail between Little Boundary Road and Millers Road (2 October – 14 December 2024)
Crews will now kick off works to resurface a 2.4km section of the Federation Trail between Little Boundary Road and Millers Road. The new, better-quality asphalt will make for a smoother path for all users.
Works will start from 8 October 2024 for a period of 10 weeks and is expected to reopen mid to late December 2024. Users of this section of the Federation Trail are advised to detour via
Cypress Avenue to get to the newly reopened section of the Federation Trail between Millers Road and Fogarty Avenue, or via the newly opened Kororoit Creek walking and cycling path to Blackshaws Road and then along Knapp Street, Gadsen Street, Glade Avenue, Rosala Avenue, Houston Court and Primula Avenue, before connecting to the newly reopened section of Federation Trail.
More information on the detour map can be found at Victoria's Big Build Disruption Map.
Once the West Gate Tunnel Project is complete by end 2025, cyclists will have a dedicated path all the way from Werribee to the city, including the missing link along the Federation Trail from Fogarty Avenue which will link to other walking and cycling paths leading to the city.
We thank the community for their patience as the project progressively completes its works to build new and upgrade existing walking and cycling pathways.
