Citybound entry ramps reopen - a step closer to getting the West Gate Tunnel open this year

Back to Newsfeed

The citybound entry ramps at Grieve Parade and Millers Road, and the Williamstown Road citybound exit ramp are now reopened to traffic.

Over recent months, we have completed line marking, barrier and sign installation and other works on key lanes and ramps along the West Gate Freeway.

Heading towards the city – to the West Gate Bridge, and to the inner west suburbs

With the installation of road barriers and finalising the citybound express lanes, drivers from the western suburbs can now enjoy a smooth run from the M80 Ring Road and Princes Freeway to the West Gate Bridge, using the three new citybound express lanes on the West Gate Freeway.

Drivers wanting to get to the inner west suburbs (Brooklyn, Yarraville, Spotswood, South Kingsville, Altona North) will need to stick to the left lanes and exit at Millers and Williamstown Road citybound exit ramps.

The far right lanes will run direct from the M80 Ring Road interchange to the West Gate Bridge, You won’t be able to exit the freeway from these lanes.

We would like to thank all drivers and the local community for their patience as we continue asphalting works on key ramps on the West Gate Freeway and building the citybound tunnel entry and outbound tunnel exit.

With the West Gate Tunnels opening to the public by end 2025, learn how to use the Tunnels - plan your drive and explore route options.

Next phase of works to kick off in April

In the next phase of works, crews will continue building the citybound tunnel entry and outbound tunnel exit and complete asphalting on key ramps and lanes.

From April, there will be outbound lane and ramp closures between Williamstown Road and Millers Road, on the West Gate Freeway on a number of weekends.  Crews will be removing a tower crane that played a key role in the construction of the outbound tunnel exit.
