West Gate Tunnel Project Community Liaison Group (CLG) got a firsthand look as works kick-off building the main structures of the Maribyrnong River bridges.
The new bridge and ramps will link the West Gate Tunnel to an elevated roadway above Footscray Road and provide Melbourne with a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge with new connections to the port, CityLink and the city.
CLG members, which include representatives from the local community in Melbourne’s West, range from residents to community leaders and interest groups.
This was the first project site visit in over a year, due to Covid restrictions, and it allowed members to get an exclusive view of the bridge construction zone. Members were also able to raise any questions about the area, the progress of the works and some of the key activities that will take place as part of the bridge construction.
When complete, the bridges will play an integral part of the West Gate Tunnel Project ending Melbourne’s heavy reliance on the West Gate Bridge.
