Major works this spring on the West Gate Freeway

Back to Newsfeed

This spring, there will be 24/7 closures on several freeway ramps, as well as lane changes, as part of ongoing works to widen the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 through lanes.

Driving along the West Gate Freeway – lane changes

From mid-September, we will be splitting outbound lanes on the West Gate Freeway over Williamstown Road. As you approach the Williamstown Road outbound exit, 2 of the 4 lanes will veer left. The lanes will join up again past Williamstown Road.

This traffic change does not require drivers to seek new detour routes or to make an early decisions in order to get to their intended destination.

Spring disruptions

From 17 September to 18 October:

  • the Princes Freeway to Geelong Road ramp is closed
  • the Grieve Parade city-bound entry ramp to the West Gate Freeway is closed
  • there is no left turn on the Williamstown Road west-bound freeway exit ramp.

Follow the detour signs.
