New pavilions for the inner-west a win for local sports clubs, wider community

Local sporting clubs in the inner west can now enjoy modern facilities at two brand new sports pavilions.

Located at Don McLean Reserve, Spotswood and WLJ Crofts Reserve, Altona North, each pavilion features a range of brand-new facilities, such as change rooms, umpires' rooms, meeting spaces, first aid rooms, kitchens, bar areas, social spaces and new storage areas.

The upgrades at Donald McLean Reserve and WLJ Crofts Reserve are part of a partnership between the West Gate Tunnel Project and Hobsons Bay City Council to improve recreational and sporting facilities for inner west communities.

Works are also well underway for further improvements to the Reserves , including:

  • refurbished and realigned ovals, floodlighting, new cricket nets and upgraded landscaping at WLJ Crofts Reserve, and
  • flood lights, refurbished ovals, improvements to multipurpose tennis and netball courts, new cricket nets and upgrades to the open play space at Donald McLean Reserve

There will also be a dramatic reduction in traffic noise for anyone watching or playing sport at the venues, thanks to new state of the art noise walls that will reduce the impact of the hundreds of thousands of vehicles that use the adjoining West Gate Freeway.

The new noise walls will be located in new areas along parks and sporting fields including Crofts, McIvor, Donald McLean and Hyde Street Reserves. This will mean quieter parks, sporting fields and neighbourhoods.
