A newly resurfaced section of the Federation Trail in Melbourne’s west has now reopened, offering walkers and cyclists a smoother and more enjoyable journey.
Resurfacing works of a 2.1km section between Little Boundary Road and Millers Road were completed during a seven-week closure as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project.
The newly resurfaced path connects with a newly opened path at Kororoit Creek Trail , providing more options for local cyclists and walkers. Now, users are able to walk or ride from Kororoit Creek Trail between Grieve Parade to Geelong Road, and onwards via the Federation Trail all the way to Fogarty Avenue in Yarraville.
West Gate Tunnel Project crews have recently installed a new 86m elevated walking and cycling bridge over the Williamstown Road citybound exit ramp. With more works to be done in this area to complete the tunnel entrance, this new bridge will ultimately provide the missing link in the Federation Trail, connecting the trail at Fogarty Avenue to Hyde Street.
This section of path will open in 2025 and is part of more than 14km of new and upgraded paths being delivered by the West Gate Tunnel Project, making it safer and easier for more people to walk or cycle.
