Pedestrian bridges at Muir Street and Rosala Avenue named

Back to Newsfeed

Following a public competition held by the West Gate Tunnel Project, with nearly 250 submissions received from the public, the two landmark pedestrian bridges spanning across the West Gate Freeway have been named.

The bridge between South Kingsville and Yarraville will be known as Woduyullul Parring Bridge which means “many paths” in the Traditional Owner language, while the bridge between Brooklyn and Altona North will be known as Yalukit Willam Bridge which is the local Indigenous clan group that lived in the area.

Replacing two outdated foot bridges, the new pedestrian overpasses are wider to allow pedestrians and cyclists to comfortably share the space and include improved safety features such as lighting and higher barriers.

Congratulations to our 10 winners who have collectively nominated the selected bridge names:

Justin Garner, Sharon Jay, Liz Wright, Chin Huong Yeap, Rhys Young, Linelle Gibson, Candice Turner, David Appels, Avison Hoang and Greg McDonald.

All winners will receive a $100 voucher to spend at a local store and enjoy a bus tour of the project with their loved one.
