Recipients of West Gate Neighbourhood Fund Partnerships and Active Community Grants announced

Forty-nine local community groups in the inner west will share in almost $1.6 million worth of funding as the recipients of the latest round of West Gate Neighbourhood Fund Partnerships and the newly established Active Community Grants.

A total of 40 community groups were awarded almost $700,000 worth of funding through the inaugural round of Active Community Grants, which supports projects from grassroots sporting, scout and girl guides clubs.

This includes helping 2nd Footscray Scout Group refurbish its kitchen to make it safer, accessible and fit-for-purpose for the scouts and other community members, and Altona Hockey Club to install a large electronic scoreboard to improve player, coach and spectator experience.

Nine larger partnerships were also awarded to community groups and council to the value of almost $900,000 for projects that connect the community and provide a lasting legacy.

Projects include upgrading Yarraville Community Centre’s kitchen and meeting spaces to support the increased demand for their Nourish food relief program and helping Diesel Electric Rail Motor Preservation Assoiation of Victoria restore a 1953 AEC Victorian Tramways bus and run tours.

The West Gate Neighbourhood Fund supports community projects that celebrate history, support diverse communities, focus on arts, and provides new opportunities and skills for communities, increasing participation, and bringing the community together. ​

It is targeted to the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong Council areas to support communities most impacted during construction of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

Applications for the final round of West Gate Neighbourhood Fund grants and partnerships will open early next year.

Projects should be ready to go and able to be delivered by June 2025.
