Revitalising Donald McLean and W.L.J Crofts Reserves

Back to Newsfeed

New shared sports pavilions, upgraded sports ground and cricket nets have all taken shape in 2021 as part of a partnership with the West Gate Tunnel Project and Hobsons Bay City Council to improve recreational and sporting facilities for inner west communities.

Being built at Donald McLean Reserve, Spotswood and W.L.J Crofts Reserve, Altona North are:

  • brand new pavilions
  • new cricket practice nets
  • upgraded ovals
  • improved play spaces
  • Flood lighting
  • improved landscaping
  • pathways and seating
  • upgraded car parking

Work is well underway on the new sporting pavilions. These pavilions will include new change rooms, first aid rooms, kitchen and bar areas, and storage spaces for sporting clubs.

New cricket practice nets have been installed at both reserves, while works on the upgraded playgrounds, open spaces and landscaping are expected to be completed in early 2022.

Car parking upgrades at Donald McLean Reserve will commence in late 2021, beginning on Creek Street. Works to upgrade car parking on The Avenue will commence in early 2022, once the playground and open spaces are completed.

The West Gate Tunnel Project is also building more than 9km of high-quality noise walls along the West Gate Freeway. New noise walls installed alongside Crofts and Donald McLean reserves will reduce the noise levels, providing the community with a more peaceful space.
