A grants and partnerships program funded by the State Government will connect inner west communities during the construction of the West Gate Tunnel Project.
In the coming months, groups will be able to tap into the $10 million West Gate Neighbourhood Fund for community led projects to bring people together and further improve neighbourhoods during the construction of the biggest infrastructure project underway in the west.
Once complete, the West Gate Tunnel Project will change the way roads are used in the inner west, getting over 9000 trucks off residential streets in the inner west making them safer, quieter and cleaner.
The West Gate Neighbourhood Fund ensures that benefits for the community are felt sooner rather than later and will build on the package of improvements the West Gate Tunnel will deliver to make it an even better place to live.
The project will also deliver over 9 hectares of new open space, quieter parks and sports grounds with new noise walls and 14 kilometres of new and upgraded bike paths.
The grants and partnerships program will be managed by the West Gate Tunnel Project team in the Major Road Projects Victoria and is open to community groups and organisations in the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong City Council areas.
The first round of partnerships will be open in the coming months with the first round of grants in the last quarter of this year.
