The West Gate Freeway outbound will be closed 24/7 between Williamstown Road and Millers Road from late Friday Friday 29 August to 5am Monday 1 September.
To get the tunnels open for use by end 2025, crews are carrying out important final asphalting works.
Significant delays of over 90 minutes are expected on the West Gate Freeway from the city to the west. Avoid the area if you can and seek alternative routes.
If you need to travel from the east of Melbourne to the west, consider detouring early and wide.
Important information to note
From late Friday 29 August to 5am Monday 1 September:
- all outbound lanes on the West Gate Freeway will be closed between the Williamstown Road outbound exit ramp and Millers Road.
- Williamstown Road, Montague Street and Todd Road outbound entry ramps will be closed
- There will be lane closures in place from the CityLink tunnels to manage traffic entering the West Gate Bridge.
For motorists who must travel in the area:
- exit early at Montague Street or the Bolte Bridge and follow signed detours, or
- if coming from Kings Way, continue onto King Street and Dudley Street before rejoining the freeway via Millers Road or Geelong Road.
- the Williamstown Road exit ramp will remain open for local traffic only.
