Are you passionate about seeing positive outcomes in your local community? The West Gate Tunnel Project is seeking community representatives in the west to join the project’s already established Community Liaison Groups.
Becoming a Community Liaison Group member will help the project further understand the project area from a local’s perspective, while members will gain more knowledge of what’s happening on the project and help support our engagement activities during construction.
There are two Community Liaison Groups - the west and north, which cover concerns relevant to their project area. These two groups meet on alternate months - meaning that members only attend a meeting once every two months.
The West Gate Tunnel Project are looking for people who:
- are interested in the development and construction of one of the largest road projects underway in Melbourne
- are proactive and collaborative in their participation
- have strong and diverse links to the community
- can commit to attending regular meetings
Currently we are looking for representatives from Point Cook, South Kingsville, Footscray Docklands and neighbouring suburbs to fill existing vacancies.

Member profile: Meet Con Frescos, Community Liaison Group member
Con Frescos, who has lived in the west his whole life, has been a member of our Community Liaison Group North for more than two years.
Con believes the best thing about living in Yarraville is the community, so he brings to the group a strong passion for wanting the best for his local neighbourhood.
“I’ve been a part of a number of local community groups over the years including the Yarraville Festival, the Yarraville Soccer Club and I’m on the committee for Football Victoria – Western Region Referees.
“I really enjoy getting involved in community issues because I believe I have a fair understanding of the people who live here,” he says. “I also try to hold a balanced view and can help represent the opinions held in my area.”
Con believes the Community Liaison Group is important because it allows for direct communication between project parties and the community and makes sure that the community isn’t forgotten about during the process.
“I also wanted to know how the West Gate Tunnel Project would impact me and I wanted to have the opportunity to provide feedback.”
Con is looking forward to seeing how the landscaping and the structural elements of the project will look when complete, and how it will affect traffic congestion.
“I’d recommend joining the group to any community leader in the west who’s interested in seeing good outcomes in their area.”
