The Victorian Government is supporting Victorian businesses and jobs with a minimum local content requirement for the construction of Melbourne’s much needed second river crossing.
It was announced today that the Western Distributor Project will have a minimum of 89 per cent local content.
This will include the design and construction of the tunnel, road works and elevated structures.
The project will also require 82 per cent local content in the supply and installation of the electronic Lane Use Management System, and constructors will be required to maximise the use of local steel.
Young Victorians will get more opportunities for local jobs with at least 10 percent of the hours worked on the project to be provided by Victorian apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets.
Victorian businesses big and small are encouraged to register their interest to benefit from the significant boost to the Victorian economy.
The Western Distributor will provide a vital second river crossing, take 6000 trucks off local streets and create 5600 jobs during construction.
