The final design and contract has been awarded for the removal of the Aviation Road level crossing.

The project will be constructed by the Western Program Alliance, made up of McConnell Dowell, Arup and Mott MacDonald.

A road bridge will be built over the Werribee line and will be delivered in stages to ensure disruption is minimised for road and rail users.

The first stage of works will include:

  • a new road bridge
  • on-road bike lanes and pedestrian path, and
  • a new shared-use path along Maher Road.

Early works will begin this month with the level crossing removed by early 2020.

The second stage of works will include a pedestrian underpass to provide an improved connection to Aircraft Station.
