Rail bridges are the preferred designs to remove the dangerous and congested level crossings at Manchester Road in Mooroolbark and Maroondah Highway in Lilydale.

The preferred designs include two new stations, and at Mooroolbark, a new multi-deck car park with up to 450 new and upgraded spaces.

A rail bridge design avoids land acquisition and is up to 18 months quicker to build – meaning less impact on communities, traders and transport users.

The project also lays the groundwork for further line upgrades, including the duplication of sections of the Lilydale Line and a potential new station between Mooroolbark and Lilydale.
