Another set of notorious boom gates have been removed for good, this time at Abbotts Road in Dandenong South.

Workers dismantled the boom gates at the start of a 10-day construction blitz on the Cranbourne line, expected to end on Saturday 8 September.

Removing the level crossing, located between Dandenong and Lynbrook stations, will provide a much-needed boost to safety at the intersection.

The finished product will be a 410-metre-long rail bridge comprised of 15 bridge beams.

Planning has allowed the area to be future-proofed, to allow for duplication of the road and rail.

Trains are expected run along this section of newly elevated rail from 9am on Saturday 8 September.
