Passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Gippsland lines catching replacement services will receive free travel in December, recognising the ongoing planned disruption over the past 12 months.

The free travel will apply during construction works taking place on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 1 to 23 December 2018 in preparation for the new fleet of High Capacity Metro Trains, which will be able to carry 20 per cent more passengers than any train currently running on the network.

Metropolitan passengers

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.

When disembarking a replacement bus on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines, you'll receive a travel token giving you free travel for your journey and any onward metropolitan travel on trains, trams or buses in Zones 1 and 2. You won’t need to touch on or touch off with your myki.

Regional passengers

Coaches will replace trains for all services on the Gippsland line.

If you're a Traralgon line passenger boarding a replacement coach, you'll travel for free and don’t need to touch on or touch off with your myki.

If you're a Bairnsdale line passenger, you'll also receive free travel on replacement coaches and are asked to book a seat for these services in advance, through the normal reservation process.

If you're a regional passenger continuing your travel on a metropolitan train, tram or bus in Zones 1 and 2, or town buses in the Gippsland region, you'll receive a V/Line paper ticket giving you free onward travel.

If you're a V/Line passenger starting your journey on a metropolitan service, ask station staff at premium stations for a paper ticket for a single or return journey to Gippsland. This paper ticket can also be used for travel in Zone 1 and 2 on the metropolitan network.

Free travel tokens and tickets

The metropolitan free travel tokens and V/Line paper tickets will be accepted by station staff, drivers and Authorised Officers as a valid ticket for travel on metropolitan trains, trams and buses in Zones 1 and 2.

Myki pass and reimbursement

If you’re travelling with a weekly or monthly myki Pass, we encourage you to consider the free travel period before buying or activating your myki Pass. You’re entitled to free travel and don’t need a myki Pass to travel from 1 December to 23 December.

If you’re starting your journey from a station on the metropolitan network outside of the disrupted area, touch on and off as normal, and contact the PTV call centre to request a reimbursement.

Passengers travelling from destinations on the V/Line network other than the Gippsland line will only be eligible to claim reimbursement for the portion of their trip taken on the Cranbourne, Pakenham or Gippsland lines.
