The new rail bridge is expected to be built on the north side of the existing bridge, allowing trains to travel up to speeds of 90km per hour.

That's a whopping 80km faster than the current speed limit on the existing bridge.

The new bridge will also increase passenger comfort by reducing train vibration and noise, while improving reliability on the Bairnsdale line.

Community members will have the chance to provide feedback during a three-week consultation period, including an information session in Stratford on Tuesday 21 August. Locals will be able to discuss the project with representatives from the Gippsland Line Upgrade.

The new Avon River Bridge is expected to be completed by early 2021.
