We’re naming our new tunnel boring machines after groundbreaking women. Bella has inspired us as the first woman to graduate from an Australian University.

Bella enrolled at the University of Melbourne in 1881. Not only did she become the first woman to graduate in 1883, having received a Bachelor of Arts, but she also went on to complete a Master of Arts.

She became a teacher at Loreto Convent in Ballarat and then principal of Ballarat School of Mines university classes. While teaching, she pushed for scholarships for Catholic girls, so they could access higher education.

Bella helped other young women complete their university education and was the Vice-President of the Women’s Political Association from 1912 to 1914.

Nominate a groundbreaking woman like Bella Guerin online and you could win a VIP tunnel boring machine experience.
