Melbourne’s newest stations are taking shape as part of the Mernda Rail Extension, with the three additional stations now officially named.

The stations, Middle Gorge, Hawkstowe and Mernda will be added to the existing train line, which currently terminates at South Morang.

Up to 8,000 commuters a day are expected to use the new stations, helping to ease congestion on Plenty Road.

Construction will ramp up over the coming months to finish laying the tracks and to complete signalling, electrical and building works.

The project is ahead of schedule, with test trains to run on the line in September. Dates and timetables for the extended line will be finalised in the coming months.
